Former champ Jabeur races past Ostapenko wins ninth straight Madrid match
Former champion Ons Jabeur reached the third round of the Madrid Open with a 6-3 6-1 win over Jelena Ostapenko on Saturday.
The Tunisian, who won the title in 2021, was too strong for the Latvian, who had won their only previous meeting in Dubai last year.
Jabeur, who is seeded fifth in Madrid, will next face either Coco Gauff or Beatriz Haddad Maia.
The 28-year-old is in good form this season, having reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open and the semi-finals of the Indian Wells Masters.
She is also the defending champion at the Italian Open, which will be held in Rome next month.
